KOIKI Japanese Eatery - Senopati Suites
FRIDAYYYYY!!! Le me give you a big hugggg!!
I know it sounds classy, but this week was just amazingly stressful....
I am just very happy that Friday was finally here!
During the weekdays, one of my co-workers posted a picture which makes me instantly fall in love with that place. In case anyone is wondering, here is the sneak peak of the picture posted
As you can see, the picture only mention the restaurant's name and in a weird place..Senopati Suites? like seriously? FYI, Senopati Suites is one of the most prestigious apartment in Jakarta. Iit is hard to believe that there is a public place at such a prestigious apartment.
Without any further delay, I started to do research about that place. Unfortunately, the information for this restaurant is very limited. As far as my research went, there is no proper review about this restaurant, not even a phone number or their business hours.. I found it very weird for such a classy restaurant (or at least that's what I could say from the picture above) to have no information available at the internet at all. I even wondered, is this restaurant a real or just a random people posting other restaurant's picture while he/she is at Senopati Suites?
But anyhow, since the picture had intrigue my interest from day 1, I decided to invite one of my friend and wonder to Senopati Area yesterday (14 November 2014). When I arrived at Senopati Suites, I felt delighted to see the yellow shining sign "KOIKI Japanese eatery". I turned my car into the apartment and asked the security guard. Beware that guest must park at the lower basement and the parking lot is ridiculously small even with my city car (Mazda 2).
When I stepped into the lift area, I can already felt the different atmosphere,,(can't help me self. never been to this elite place before). It is quite confusing to get to the lobby from the basement, but somehow we managed.
When I first entered the restaurant I was very very surprise to see that the there is no customers on the first floor and only a couple of ladies occupying one table on the second floor. Maybee....this place is not as good as I expected. But I've stepped into the restaurant, there is no backing down now. So let's just continue..
The service was nice, just what I would expect from a middle up restaurant. We were escorted to our seating. Well, since the place is empty, we were free to choose where we wanted to seat.
After browsing through their menu book for quite a while, we decided to order:
'Koiki Bento - Salmon Teriyaki' (IDR 150,000) and Koiki Bento - Chicken Teriyaki (IDR 115,000)
The bento is real good value. In addition to the main course (rice with whatever dish you choose), it also comes with additional salmon sashimi, potato salad, misho shiru, and konyaku Jelly.
From the first glance, it looked just like any other Bento. But the first bite, all initial assumption were overruled. The taste was juts mind blowing! Even me and my friend wondered 'are we too hungry or is this bento is simply amazing?' Both the chicken and salmon are well cooked and topped with teriyaki sauce which was not too strong and overwhelming Making them a beautiful combination. I found the salmon sashimi and potato salad were just a very nice addition to the bento, because both of them don't have a strong taste which will overwhelmed the main dish' flavor.
and I would quote my friend here 'this is simply the best bento I've eaten so far in Jakarta'.
'Okonomiyaki' (IDR 58,000)
This one is another winner. The okonomiyaki was topped with generous seaweed, mayonaise, dashi, and the Japanese red ginger. The filling was also generous. It contained squid, crab stick, cabbage, and other yummy but unidentifiable ingredients. This can also be shared among 3-4 people as a side dish.
'Matcha Foundue' (IDR 68,000) - Why I was here for!
Looking at the picture above, who doesn't fall in love with it?
The fondue set comes with marshmallow, banana, kiwi, and strawberry slices, as well as red bean and vanilla ice cream. To be honest, the Matcha fondue is not the best out there. I couldn't really taste the green tea flavor from the chocolate and it was too sweet for me. But when it is eaten with the ice cream. it created a whole different experience. I am not a fan of red bean and dont usually eat anything that made using red bean as its ingredient. But this one is different. The red bean ice cream is not too sweet and overwhelmed with red bean taste (which is why I love it). So my own suggestion is to dipped the marshmallow / fruit into the fondue and add a small ice cream to it. PERFECTO!
KOIKI has now been officially included in my 'Must visit' restaurants among others restaurants in Senopati Area. I would definitely pay a second or even third visit, because they are worth it!
