Bunga Rampai - Menteng

Even though we go through the same cycle every week,
But statically have proven that Friday improve people's mood by 11%!
So why waste Friday nite by doing nothing at home while there are so many restaurants await??

Unlike any other Friday, I didn't have any plan for this Friday and doesn't really feel like making one. So me and my friend decided to just randomly drive around with nothing special in my mind...but suddenly I remembered my other friend recommend me this decent restaurant few days ago! So we ended going to Bunga Rampai at 9pm on Friday nite. (Apologize for the bad picture's quality, it's hard to take a good picture in such a low light situation.)

This restaurant is quite easy to spot if you are coming from the direction of Bundaran HI, it's located directly across Jakarta Eyes Centre (Menteng Branch). Even though when we got there, it was already 9pm, the parking space was still full, but lucky we got a space not far from the restaurant itself.

From the outside, you will see that this restaurant is build in an old Dutch colonial building. But don't let it fool you. The first step into the restaurant was enough to stunned and amazed me. Apparently, the restaurant consist of 3 stories. The first floor was designed with elegance and fine dining style interior. The third floor was designed with an old and classy style. It is a semi outdoor area with air conditioner. But unfortunately smoking is allowed on this floor. (Since it has already passed their business hours, I didn't have the chance to see their second floor's design.)

The service? it exceeds my expectation. I'll tell you why in a minute. The staff here were very nice and friendly. They are very knowledgeable about their menu, which make them capable to suggest menu tailored to the customers' requirements. But what surprise me was the fact that they didn't have the slightest intention to chase or hurried us or to close our bill even when our visiting time has passed their opening hours. Even the air-con was still on. We didn't even realize that it had already 1 hour passed their business hours, so we excuse ourselves consciously.

Next, let's move on to the food review.
'Braised Oxtail / Grilled Oxtail soup (Sop buntut bakar) ' (IDR 132,000)

*woot woot!! recommended dish!!*
The 'Grilled oxtail soup' was also served with rice. The Oxtail was nicely marinated and very tender. For me, the best is their homemade green chili. but beware, since the chili is quite spicy,(my chili tolerance is considered to be quite high)

'Nasi Bakar Jagung/ Grilled Corn Rice' (IDR 75,000)

This was basically rice on a hot pot served with grilled corn, tempeh bacam (which looks exactly like satay), and different version of homemade chili (which was also very good). This dish is suitable for vegetarian.  The portion was also quite big for average woman to finish off. But aside from that, there's nothing special about the dish

'Sate Lilit Jimbaran' (IDR 68,000)

As the menu described, this satay was made from mince shrimp and fish. Marinated in their (secret) sauce - well, of course it is secret. Otherwise people can easily copy it. This satay was also served with a different type of chili. This one was not spicy and compliment the satay very well. Bunga Rampai is just so good at creating different chili to suits their dishes! two thumbs up for this!

'Bubur Bungarampai' (IDR 27,500)

This is basically a customized and fancy version of 'bubur ketan hitam'. Instead of using heavy coconut milk, they used coconut ice cream instead. As a result, it gives a lighter flavor and more appropriate for dessert. But for me, the glutonius ball (biji salak) was too soft, it would have been better if they can make it to be more chewy. But other than that, this dessert is good enough and I would recomend this dessert for those who are craving for decent Indonesian's dessert.

Overall, this is one of my favorite Indonesian (semi fine dining) restaurants. Granted that you have to pay extra for Indonesian food. But for a foodie point of view, I can say that this restaurant is worth it. I'll definitely come back next time to try more of their food.

Happy Eating people!!
